In Dr Ash's words

A clinical career, a measurement-led practice.

I've been in clinical practice since 1997 — twenty-nine years spent learning to read what the body and brain are actually telling us.

I came into this work through sports science. My early years were in elite-level Rugby League in Queensland, where I learned that performance and recovery are nervous-system stories long before they are muscular ones. That idea has shaped everything since.

I followed my father into chiropractic, focussing early on Tonus Neurological technique and Bowen-based manual therapy. The more I worked, the more the brain and nervous system drew me in. That led to postgraduate study in functional neurology and certifications in qEEG brain mapping, neurofeedback, biofeedback, and anxiety education.

The Healthy Brain Clinic in Geelong and Camperdown grew out of that work. What kept me here was being able to see how the brain is actually functioning — and how much of daily life shifts when it is dysregulated. Every case I see makes me want to reach more people, and help more of them find clearer thinking and steadier brain function.

I practised martial arts for forty-five years and founded Vital Force Aikido in Geelong, Victoria, where I served as Head Sensei. The teaching role has wound down, but the lessons it gave me stayed. Aikido taught me what no textbook could: that the nervous system reveals itself in movement, in breath, and in how a person meets pressure.

A career in stages

From sports science to brain-rhythm training — twenty-nine years of one through-line.

Each stage answered a question the previous one had raised.

  1. Early years · Queensland

Sports science & elite Rugby League

First degree in clinical exercise physiology. Years on the field at elite-level Rugby League, watching how performance and recovery sit on the nervous system long before the muscular system.

  2. 1997 · Clinical practice begins

    Chiropractic — Tonus & Bowen-based work

Trained as a chiropractor, following my father into the profession. Focussed early on Tonus Neurological technique and Bowen-based manual therapy. Postgraduate study in functional neurology followed soon after.

  3. 2010s · Brain-health turn

    qEEG, neurofeedback, biofeedback

The brain became the central interest. Certifications in qEEG brain mapping, neurofeedback, biofeedback, and anxiety education. The clinic gradually reorganised around what those measurements made visible.

  4. Today · Geelong & Camperdown

    The Healthy Brain Clinic

Two physical clinics in regional Victoria, plus telehealth across Australia and an online platform reaching internationally. Measurement-first care, drawing on five clinician-led, non-invasive modalities and the qEEG that opens every plan.

Outside the clinic

Forty-five years of Aikido.

I practised martial arts for forty-five years and founded Vital Force Aikido in Geelong, Victoria, where I served as Head Sensei. The active teaching has wound down — the lessons it gave me have not.

Aikido was not a hobby that lived separately from the clinical work. It was the longest-running clinical experiment of my life. It taught me what no textbook could: that the nervous system reveals itself in movement, in breath, and in how a person meets pressure.

Much of what informs how I read a brain map began on a tatami mat — watching how arousal, attention and recovery cycle through a body in real time, under load.

What a clinical engagement looks like.

Every patient pathway is personalised, but most engagements move through these stages.

  1. Step 1 · Online · $67

    Brain Health Assessment

A 14-network online assessment establishes a baseline before we meet in person. Dr Ash reviews every result personally before your in-clinic appointment.

  2. Tier 3 · In-clinic · From $499

qEEG Brain Map Deep Dive with Dr Ash

A 19-channel qEEG, ERP testing, and a 1-hour clinical review. You leave the room with a structured picture of how your brain is working today, and a written summary you can share with your other clinicians.

  3. Step 3 · 12-week programme · $499 to start

    Healthy Brain Programme

Where indicated, a 12-week programme of swLORETA neurofeedback, biofeedback, and functional neurological exercises — sequenced to what your map shows. Reassessment qEEG ($250) at week 11.

  4. Ongoing

    Coordination with your wider team

Throughout the work I coordinate with your GP, psychologist, paediatrician or psychiatrist, and refer as necessary. Your plan is documented, reviewed at regular intervals, and revised as the clinical picture evolves.

The same methodology, every tier

Examination, not assumption.

14 brain networks. Quantitative measurement at the start, the middle, and the end. Co-care with your GP and psychologist — we work alongside, not instead of.

Step 1

Examine

19-channel quantitative EEG, processed against age-matched norms via NeuroGuide. swLORETA source localisation maps activity to specific networks.

Step 2

Intervene

swLORETA-guided neurofeedback paired with HRV biofeedback at resonant frequency. Network-targeted protocols, not one-size-fits-all.

Step 3

Re-measure

qEEG comparison at mid-cycle and end of programme. If the data isn’t moving in the expected direction, we change the plan — not the calendar.

One methodology across every tier — from the free Snapshot through to the in-clinic 12-week programme.

Four tiers of care
